With online conversations becoming more and more prominent these days, it can be overwhelming to keep track of all the latest and greatest social messaging Apps. So, in this article I will be helping to ease your mind a little by suggesting some of my favourite social messaging Apps for you to make the most of.

No.1 LINE: Calls & Messages

LINE: Calls & Messages

AndroidiOS

Communication

Features:

- Video and voice calls

- Group Chats for up to 200 people

- Use a variety of stickers and themes

- Follow other accounts

Line has been a very useful App to millions of users for many years now. Offering more basic features than some other Apps on this list however it allows users to customise their profile and experience to best suit their needs or even just to express themselves. This can be via customising their online avatar or adding themes to multiple different chats to help them stand out.

For those of you looking for good quality video calls, well Line has you covered. Not only does it offer video calls but you can have Group chats and voice calls with up to 200 people. So, if you are a social butterfly or just enjoy sharing your interest with other people, this is definitely an enticing feature.

Line also offers some more social features to help you find new friends or topics to talk about.  So, you can dive into a public group and chat about the latest Anime or Movie you have watched and share your experiences with hundreds of potential new friends. Better yet, Line lets you follow accounts that you are interested in so you can stay up to date with their latest thoughts or news. You can even play games while chatting to your friends instead of just staring at text the whole time.

Line is a very simple yet convenient App. Even giving you the option to transfer contacts from your Phone and Sim Card at the tap of a button. I can easily recommend Line to those of you wanting a Social App with the option to express yourself without holding back.

No.2 WhatsApp Messenger

WhatsApp Messenger

AndroidiOS

Communication

Features:

- High quality voice and video calls

- Facebook integration

- Encrypted group chat with up to 256 people

- Easy to set up and add contacts

WhatsApp is easily the most popular App listed today, with over 150 million people leaving reviews alone. That should give an idea of just how popular this App truly is. There is a good reason for the popularity too, with quite possibly the highest quality video and voice calls available on mobile, it’s a no-brainer for people to gravitate towards using this App. Coupled with all your chats both private and group conversations are encrypted, so only those in the conversation will be able to access the chat logs.

WhatsApp is also incredibly simple to start up, just install the App, link your phone number and that’s it. You can even instantly add your contacts from your Phone and Sim Card to start chatting right away with the hassle of meeting up in person to link them. Another useful feature is you can link the Mobile and Desktop Apps to easily save any files sent or received.

For those of you who like to keep your family and friends up to date with your most recent happenings, you can update your status every day and include videos, text or photos for all your friends to see. Or even if you just want to brag about what you’re doing on holiday.

WhatsApp is my personal number 1 recommendation in this article. The sheer amount of users, encrypted chat logs, ease of use and high quality video and voice calls are what make this one of my favourite social messaging Apps. Absolutely you should give this App a try if you haven’t already.

No.3 Messenger

Messenger

AndroidiOS

Communication

Features:

- Free video and voice calls

- Group chats with up to 50 people

- Send and request money transfers

- Link SMS to Messenger

Messenger has gone through many changes since its release however it’s still one of the go to social messaging Apps. Offers many features to customise your experience, it’s one of, if not the best App on this list in this regard. With a huge number of themes, filters, effects and stickers, Messenger is hugely loved thanks to the quality and quantity of available choices to make your experience a unique one.

It’s incredibly easy to send and upload videos and photos to your friends, family or group chats. Or if you prefer sending audio messages as it’s too important than just typing, it can be done at the tap of a button.  Of course, this means that Messenger offers both high quality video and voice calls. Another feature that you family-oriented users will make use of, is the option to send and request money transfers. Forgot your wallet but offered to pay for a meal? Simply send that money directly through the App.

Messenger also includes an impressive feature that lets you chat with your local businesses. So, if you want to make an appointment, get in contact with customer support or just find the best deals, Messenger will help you do that. Another useful feature is the ability to share your location. Have you made plans with your friends but one of them is lost? Well just tap the button to share your location and they will be able to find you via GPS.

Messenger has a lot of features making it incredibly useful for a variety of people and scenarios. If you’re looking to chat with your family or even a local business wanting to get the word out on your latest deals, Messenger has got you covered.

No.4 Telegram

Telegram

AndroidiOS

Communication

Features:

- Group chats with up to 200,000 people

- Send up to 2GB of files or videos

- Impressive security with multiple combinations of encryption

- Includes photo and video editing tools

Telegram has been the most surprising App for me on this list. Before researching this topic, I did not know about Telegram. Now though I can safely say I will be making more use of this App in the future. The features Telegram offers are incredibly useful and the amount of security it offers fills me with confidence.

Being able to send and share files up to 2GB in size is what first caught my eye. Then as I glanced down, I noticed that you can create group chats with up to 200,000 members. No that’s not a typo, Telegram proudly boasts that it’s the most powerful and secure App on the market today and with these claims, I believe it. Even better, each file you send is stored on Telegram’s encrypted cloud service.

If video or photo sharing is your main focus, Telegram is a viable choice, again thanks to being able to share up to 2GB file size but it also allows users to edit these videos and photos too. You can even sync these files to your Desktop for convenient file transfer to yourself.

Telegram really has impressed me with the features it offers. You can even have secret chats if you like to keep a low profile, with the chat log even having a “Self-Destruct” option for when it’s no longer needed. I can easily recommend Telegram to those of you who are video editors or tend to transfer a lot of documents.

Viber is one of the best free and secure App on the market. Super simple to use making it incredibly user friendly even for less tech savvy people. So, you don’t need to give grandma an in-depth tutorial on how to use it. Being able to video chat with up to 40 friends and family makes this the ideal choice for keeping in contact with those closest to you.

If video calls aren’t your thing, you can create group text chats for up to 250 members. You can even start polls and quizzes in these chats to keep everyone from being bored or just to test their knowledge. In case you lack knowledge, just know that your group chats are encrypted so you don’t need to worry about them being leaked.

Speaking more on security. Viber offers encrypted 1 on 1 chats so if you want to keep something secret, you can make use of these chats and have them be automatically deleted after a specific time has passed of your choosing.

Viber is easy to recommend, thanks to its simple but well-made features. Being able to have video calls with up to 40 people makes this a great family friendly choice too. Plus, little additions like sending a wide variety of stickers, videos and Gifs to add a little extra amusement to your chats.

Depending on your needs, some of these will be more appealing than others but it’s safe to say that at least one of them will be your new method of keeping in touch with you family and friends in the near future.
